About the Training

Arttu Etelapelto, Vika Matuzeite, Maartje Bulthuis and John Verhees welcome 29 other European youth workers. During a training we choose a positive approach towards youngsters that are facing difficulties in their strive to lead an independent social and economic life. This might be due to exclusion, less opportunities, behavioural or learning problems, complications in their home situations, poor economic conditions, etc. Talent Development is par excellence an approach in which young people are stimulated to discover, unfold and develop their abilities. To be involved, to learn, to develop competences and to participate. Talent Development stimulates the intrinsic motivation of young people and gives them a huge sense of ownership. They, themselves are in the lead and responsible for their own development, their successes as big or small as they might seem! During this training course we will explore the potential of Talent Development as a non-formal approach towards young people in order to strengthen their social and economic capacities. During the training we will tackle the key components of talent development, the role of a youth worker in the process of talent development, different strategies and approaches, the role of talent development in the job market and the potential of talent development as a method in youth work. With this positive approach we know we can combat youth unemployment on small and larger scale. Combining best practices from all participants and developing new approaches during the training course will result in a toolkit that each participant can use in their own local reality.
